Learning Strategist Search # 1112-0031
Ohio Wesleyan University is currently searching for a Learning Strategist to work in our Sagan Academic Resource Center.
The Learning Strategist directs the Learning Disability Assistance Center of the Sagan Academic Resource Center and has primary responsibility for assisting students with educational disabilities (cognitive, behavioral, psychological, physical, etc.) insofar as these impact the educational process. This position reports directly to the Director of the Sagan Academic Resource Center under the Dean of Academic Affairs.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining documentation and utilization records of appropriate academic adjustment.
- Certifying, facilitating, and providing appropriate academic adjustment.
- Referring students with educational disabilities to other appropriate resources.
- Helping students understand and mitigate the effects of their educational disabilities.
- Counseling students with educational disabilities about their responsibilities and rights.
- Recommending, maintaining, and utilizing compensatory educational technologies.
- Assisting faculty to understand and provide appropriate academic adjustments.
- Helping students to develop independence and responsibility.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in an appropriate area: e.g. disability education, school or educational psychology, higher education student personnel/special needs, etc.
- Expertise in learning interventions for students with learning disabilities.
- Ability to understand and interpret psycho-educational diagnostic reports.
- Understanding of disability issues including compliance parameters.
- Familiarity with higher education institutions and higher education disabilities services.
- Proven advising, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Organizational skills and initiative.
- Co-operative team skills and service-oriented approach.
- Problem-solving attitude and experience.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of records and conversations.
- Ability to work with a number of constituencies, students, faculty, advisors, administrators, et al.
- Ability to work with students in achieving growth, maturation, and independence.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
