Microbiology Lab Manager

The Botany and Microbiology Department of Ohio Wesleyan University invites applications for a Microbiology Laboratory Manager – Search #1112-0007.

The duties of the Microbiology Laboratory Manager include but are not limited to maintaining bacterial and fungal cultures; maintaining scientific equipment in working order; preparing solutions, reagents, and bacteriological media; inoculating bacterial and fungal cultures for class and research use; coordination and preparation of scheduled weekly laboratory set-ups for microbiology and biology lab classes including moving equipment and supplies; supervising work-study students; and purchasing supplies. The position requires an average of 32 hours per week for 50 weeks of the year but can vary especially during the summer.

A college degree in microbiology, or a degree in biology with microbiology experience, or 1-3 years experience in a similar job is required. Experience handling bacterial and fungal cultures is required as is experience handling scientific equipment appropriate to the job. Applicants should be computer literate with demonstrated word processing experience, have the ability to work with a diverse student body and function as a member of a team.
