New York Arts Program Residence Manager

Overview

The New York Arts Program develops apprenticeships between professional artists or arts organizations in New York, and students from undergraduate colleges. The Residence Manager serves under the direction of the Program Coordinator and Director to manage residential life and the needs of the New York Arts Program building. This includes supervising student Residence Assistants (RAs), overseeing student programs and meeting student needs as they arise, managing building supplies, maintenance, and fire and security procedures, and keeping records in concert with the Program Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Live on-site in New York City; take responsibility for program, building, and students during emergencies, on evenings, holidays, and weekends, and at other times as directed by Program Director or Coordinator;
  • Supervision and establishment of responsibilities, meetings, and routines with the student RAs;
  • Follow the incoming student interview calendar and assist in greeting arriving interviewees and summer residents
  • Assist the Program Coordinator with scheduling summer housing assignments and collecting summer rent and Deposits;
  • Report to the Program Coordinator needs concerning supplies and maintenance; with the Coordinator, schedule maintenance and service or replacement of building equipment on a regular basis;
  • Assist the Program Coordinator in planning, organizing, and managing meetings and events;
  • Manage and troubleshoot in-house wireless network, student Macintosh computers, and student peripherals;
  • Interface with the campus constituency and the public, exercising discretion and tact, and performing other related duties as assigned; and
  • Plan, develop, and initiate program activities that meet the social, recreational, and developmental needs and interests of the students.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree;
  • Candidates should be detail oriented, personable, able to communicate well, and have good organizational skills;
  • Candidates should possess the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects under tight deadlines;
  • Candidate should possess basic Apple computer skills;
  • Working knowledge of basic carpentry, painting, electrical, and plumbing work is desirable;
  • Candidates should be familiar with student needs and New York City; Residence Assistant (RA) experience is desirable; and
  • Desired personal qualities expected in a Resident Manager are: self discipline and motivation; interest in people on an individual basis and awareness of feelings, needs and rights of others; attention to administrative detail and deadlines; the ability to work independently and as a team with the other RA’s and Program staff.

RMs seeking employment other than the RM position shall seek advance approval of the Program Director. Such employment must not interfere with one’s assigned office hours and job responsibilities including the coverage hours scheduled. Such requests for outside employment must be submitted in writing, and granting of such requests will be based on job performance.

Salary and Benefits

Position begins June 1 2008. A 12-month contract will be issued by Ohio Wesleyan University. Yearly compensation will be $20,500. Benefits include health insurance, free on-site room, and storage.
