Director of Minority Student Affairs

Ohio Wesleyan University seeks an experienced professional for the position of Director of Minority Student Affairs. The Director reports to the Dean of Students and serves as an engaged member of the Division of Student Life leadership group in addressing campus-wide matters in support of the success of all students with particular attention to minority students/students of color. This is a full-time, 12-month, administrative position with a comprehensive benefits package including a generous tuition program for qualified dependents.

The primary responsibilities of this position include: Manage the overall activities of the Office of Minority Student Affairs; Serve as the primary advisor for student groups and organizations that work closely with the office and support students’ programming efforts to develop a close sense of community on campus; Serve as the liaison and primary administrative contact between minority students and the campus community; Work closely with the academic support offices and the Registrar’s Office to actively promote the academic growth and success of all minority students; Help support the successful and timely transition of entering minority students into the University support structure; Support community building efforts through close collaboration with various departments across campus designed to fully integrate minority students into the OWU community; and develop and work to fully administer a program in support of initiatives to improve the retention and graduation rates of minority students.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred (Higher Education Administration, Multiculturalism, Student Personnel, or a related field). A minimum of three years experience working directly with minority students in a college setting, or a combination of programming and service delivery (including part-time and graduate experience) equivalent to the full-time requirement will also be considered. Familiarity and experience with the Posse Foundation program, Upward Bound, or other high school academic-leadership programs would be a plus, as would successful grant writing and/or grant management experiences. An understanding and appreciation of a residential liberal arts education would be very beneficial.
